Item notes
March 1990 issue of 25th Parallel, an independent South Florida culture and entertainment magazine. The issue features Johnny Depp on the cover and contains the cover story “From Our Streets to Jump Street”, written by Brian Warner during the earliest phase of his career. The article follows Depp during the filming of an episode of 21 Jump Street in South Florida. It combines observations from the set with biographical material and interview excerpts concerning his childhood, early music career, move to Los Angeles, first acting roles and attitude towards fame. The feature begins on page 26 and continues on pages 29 and 30, accompanied by several large black-and-white portraits. This issue documents Brian Warner’s work as a journalist shortly before the wider emergence of Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids and represents an uncommon example of his early published writing. It is particularly interesting in retrospect because Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp later became close friends.
